El Inesperado – por Joseph O’Connor<\/h2>\n

\u00a1Feliz A\u00f1o Nuevo!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Navidad y A\u00f1o Nuevo son vacaciones muy agradables.<\/p>\n

Y … c\u00f3mo es A\u00f1o Nuevo, que hablar de las resoluciones de A\u00f1o Nuevo?<\/p>\n

Bueno, voy a resistir la tentaci\u00f3n de dedicar este art\u00edculo a la futilidad o importancia o \u00e9xito o fracaso de las resoluciones del A\u00f1o Nuevo.<\/p>\n

Vamos a hablar de lo inesperado.<\/p>\n

Cuando era ni\u00f1o, mis padres dejaban un lugar vac\u00edo en la mesa de la cena en la Navidad para el inesperado invitado. Cuchillo, tenedor y servilleta fueron puestos, y la silla est\u00e1 lista, si alguien llegase. Mi madre hac\u00eda un poco de comida extra m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de lo que la familia comer\u00eda.<\/p>\n

Este lugar para el \u00abinvitado inesperado\u00bb es una antigua costumbre irlandesa, (todav\u00eda en uso en partes de Irlanda). Un viajero cansado puede golpear su puerta en busca de refugio. Y los irlandeses, siendo una de las personas m\u00e1s hospitalarias de la tierra, quieren ofrecer m\u00e1s que apenas un abrigo de la lluvia. (Siempre est\u00e1 lloviendo en Irlanda).<\/p>\n

En realidad, yo no entend\u00eda la idea cuando era joven. Parec\u00eda agradable, pero in\u00fatil, y nunca tuvimos ning\u00fan invitado inesperado, entonces \u00bfpor qu\u00e9 preocuparse? Sin embargo, recuerdo todo esto en la Navidad.<\/p>\n

Es un pensamiento generoso querer tener un invitado para compartir la comida. En un nivel m\u00e1s profundo, es una apertura a lo inesperado. Cuando busqu\u00e9 el t\u00e9rmino \u00abinvitado inesperado\u00bb en Internet, los resultados que recib\u00ed fueron principalmente vinculados a algo aterrador, (hay un famoso cuento sobre el asesinato llamado \u00abEl invitado inesperado\u00bb.) Como si un invitado inesperado fuera siempre mal.<\/p>\n

La palabra \u00abesperar\u00bb es derivada de ‘ex’, que significa ‘antes’, y ‘espect’ que significa ‘ver’, entonces se espera algo si usted ha visto esto e inesperado si usted no ha visto. Entonces, es nuevo y vamos a alegrarnos de lo inesperado. No podemos predecir lo que sucede de un minuto para el otro, siempre hay la posibilidad de la sorpresa. La vida ser\u00eda tan aburrida si fuera lo contrario.<\/p>\n

Sin embargo, pasamos mucho tiempo, esfuerzo y energ\u00eda tratando de controlar nuestro medio ambiente, alejando la posibilidad de lo inesperado como si fuera un ladr\u00f3n. Lo que distingue a un invitado de un intruso es la forma en que los ve (siempre que no pretenden perjudicar). Un invitado no es un intruso, por el contrario, son bienvenidos.<\/p>\n

Cuando el inesperado viene, a menudo intentamos disminuirlo, y lo hacemos de dos maneras.<\/p>\n

Una de ellas es decir: \u00abYo lo sab\u00eda de todos modos\u00bb y, si eso no funciona, entonces recurrimos a la segunda opci\u00f3n: \u00abBueno, de todos modos, no es importante\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Una pena, una oportunidad inesperada puede ser desperdiciada.<\/p>\n

Bienvenido al invitado inesperado, hay muchos por ah\u00ed, esperando una oportunidad de entrar. Ellos tienen historias interesantes y maravillosas para contar y pueden darle la idea de una nueva aventura. Tenga un lugar en su mesa mental para ellos, para que usted pueda o\u00edr los cuentos de los viajeros. In my early years of school, one of my favorite subjects was called Moral and Civic Education.<\/strong><\/p>

Depending on when each reader lived his childhood, he will know what I mean.<\/p>

For those who do not know, M.C.E. was a formal and compulsory subject in schools, which was intended to help educate good citizens, who knew their duties and rights.<\/p>

But this goal I only discovered recently, at that time the literal meaning of these words never occurred to me, I simply loved to paint the cartoons of the comic strips, the Brazilian flag, and to talk about the daily facts of my city and country. This was much cooler than decorating the tables or learning about things that had happened and stopped happening hundreds of years before I even existed!<\/p>

The other day, driving back to my house here in London, I watched people cross the street in front of me, and thought\u2026 how do the moral values of a culture or region directly reflect the everyday reality of an entire nation?<\/strong><\/p>

And I\u2019ve thought of all the countries I\u2019ve been to, which are dozens of them, and cultures in general, and how clear it is to understand which are those values established strongly from the cradle, in that culture of which that person did and of which he is a part.<\/p>

An IVH (Human Value Index) survey conducted by the UN (The United Nations) showed that in the opinion of Brazilians, in general, what it is necessary to change in Brazil for quality of life to improve is, first, education, followed by public policy, violence, moral values \u200b\u200band employment. In the State of S\u00e3o Paulo there was a variation in relation to the national opinion, with moral values \u200b\u200bfirst.<\/p>

Most likely, if the same survey were done in England or in any other country, the result would be another.<\/strong><\/p>

And it occurred to me: This applies not only to countries, but also to each of the families and the citizens.<\/p>

If we stop to think, we will see clearly how the values we experience (or not) in our home, influences our life in general.<\/p>

I particularly have two very strong and unshakable values, one is respect, and the other is honesty.<\/p>

I cannot imagine a satisfactorily happy life without the presence of one of these two values.<\/p>

And analyzing my reality, I see how everyone in my house also adopted the same guiding values, just as I adopted the values of the other members of my family.<\/p>

And in that I thought as I watched people cross the street\u2026 in the tranquility I was feeling, standing at the traffic light, with the glass open, and not even thinking about checking the mirror to make sure no one was approaching to rob me. And everyone around them was acting the same way.<\/strong><\/p>

The boy who appeared to be about 10 years of age crossing the street alone, with his school bag, talking on his iPhone, the executive with his backpack, who did not try to disguise the presence of a laptop, and the old man, who walked calmly on the street with his walking stick, not being hit by the other pedestrians, and not bothering to finish crossing quickly, just in case the green light turned red for him.<\/p>

And I realized the main reason for me to love London, is because people and their values, build a nation and (regardless of the weather), build the quality of life they have. (I\u2019m not just referring to London, but mentioning what I observed while thinking about it. Of course, I love Brazil a lot, however, for different reasons.)<\/p>

Our values build our reality, as long as we are congruent with them!<\/p>

After all, what good is it to value education if you\u2019re too lazy to read a book?<\/p>

Or honesty, if you\u2019re happy when you get a little extra change and you don't even consider returning the difference to the cashier?<\/p>
