Como dir\u00eda mi amigo y maestro Lama Dondrub, la palabra \u201c<strong>compasi\u00f3n<\/strong>\u201d no es una traducci\u00f3n fiel del concepto budista. Es necesario no confundirla con \u201c<strong>l\u00e1stima<\/strong>\u201c, que es el enemigo cercano de la compasi\u00f3n budista, porque da una posici\u00f3n de superioridad a quien la siente y, por tanto, refuerza su ego.<\/p>\n<p>La definici\u00f3n de compasi\u00f3n budista es \u201c<em>el deseo de que todos los seres se liberen del sufrimiento y de las causas que lo producen<\/em>\u201c. Muy propio de un coach \u00bfno es cierto?<\/p>\n<p>La compasi\u00f3n se parece a\u00fan m\u00e1s a lo que busca un coach si escuchamos a Lama Dondrub, a su vez coach de ICC, cuando recomienda aplicar\u00a0<strong>la compasi\u00f3n como<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>una capacidad de sentir el sufrimiento de los dem\u00e1s sin perder el propio estado de luminosidad,\u00a0<\/strong>para ser capaz de ayudarles. Esto es exactamente lo que se busca con nuestro \u201cestado c.o.a.c.h.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Quiz\u00e1 ya sabes que las letras (en ingl\u00e9s) del\u00a0<strong>acr\u00f3nimo c.o.a.c.h. describen las caracter\u00edsticas del estado<\/strong>\u00a0que se necesita en coaching, seg\u00fan Robert Dilts. Son estas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Centrado\u00a0<\/strong>en el\/la coachee, en ti mismo\/a como coach y en vuestra relaci\u00f3n.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Abierto\/a\u00a0<\/strong>(<em>opened<\/em> en ingl\u00e9s) a lo que la sesi\u00f3n pueda traer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Atento\/a<\/strong>\u00a0a lo que le ocurre a la persona, a ti mismo\/a y a la relaci\u00f3n.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Conectado\/a\u00a0<\/strong>con la persona y contigo mismo\/a<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sosteniendo\u00a0<\/strong>(<em>hold<\/em> en ingl\u00e9s) lo que sucede a la otra persona, a ti y a la relaci\u00f3n que os conecta.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>M\u00e1s de una vez me preguntan\u00a0<strong>\u00bfC\u00f3mo mantener mi estado coach si la otra persona me est\u00e1 contando algo dram\u00e1tico?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yo le respondo que, efectivamente, como coach tenemos situaciones muy dif\u00edciles, como una enfermedad, una ruptura dram\u00e1tica o la muerte de un ser querido. Pero la cuesti\u00f3n es \u00bfY c\u00f3mo quieres ayudarle si t\u00fa tambi\u00e9n te derrumbas?<\/p>\n<p>En mi experiencia puedo decir que lo que te libra de ello es precisamente el deseo de ayudar y lo decisivo que es tu estado coach para hacerlo. Algo dentro de ti te da fuerzas y te sostiene para permitir que esa persona salga de su agujero, gracias a una herramienta tan poderosa como el coaching profesional.<\/p>\n<p>En cierto sentido<strong>, es como si est\u00e1s agarrando a alguien con una mano para que no caiga en un precipicio<\/strong>\u00a0mientras con la otra te agarras a una cuerda: sientes la fuerza de la gravedad igual que esa persona, pero t\u00fa tienes d\u00f3nde agarrarte. Como ella depende de ti, no piensas en caer sino que te centras en ayudar, sacas tu mejor versi\u00f3n y vienen las fuerzas de donde no pensabas que las hab\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>Tu estado coach te permite\u00a0<strong>conectar con el sufrimiento de la persona sin que te aleje de tu equilibrio<\/strong>\u00a0y de tu fuerza. Es como cuando un rayo atraviesa el pararrayos con toda su fuerza pero sin da\u00f1arlo.<\/p>\n<p>Este estado te permite \u201c<strong>sostener<\/strong>\u201d el dolor de ese momento, y eso es exactamente lo que necesita la persona a la que ayudas, pues solo tiene oportunidad de sentirse sostenida as\u00ed cuando est\u00e1 contigo. Entonces es cuando la persona es capaz de serenarse y\u00a0<strong>observar con m\u00e1s distancia<\/strong>\u00a0lo que le sucede, reduciendo as\u00ed el poder de las emociones, que la llevan a\u00a0<strong>la espiral del p\u00e1nico<\/strong>. Esto lo consigue el coach gracias a su estado y a la\u00a0<strong>escucha plena<\/strong>, para conectarse m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de lo que se entiende como empat\u00eda para alcanzar algo muy\u00a0<strong>similar a la compasi\u00f3n<\/strong>\u00a0budista: ayudar a superar el sufrimiento desde tu luminosidad.<\/p>\n<p>El resultado final es que la persona consigue\u00a0<strong>experimentar su sufrimiento con serenidad<\/strong>. Entonces es cuando las herramientas de coaching pueden lograr una transformaci\u00f3n vital de forma natural y poderosa, pues en muchas ocasiones ayudan a la persona a\u00a0<strong>trascender\u00a0<\/strong>su dolor hasta encontrar un sentido superior a su vida. Es importante no olvidar que estas herramientas fracasan cuando no se aplica el estado y la escucha adecuados.<\/p>\n<p>Como puedes ver, realmente\u00a0<strong>el coach conecta con el ser humano que hay detr\u00e1s del dolor<\/strong>, con la esencia que est\u00e1 tapada y contaminada por la emoci\u00f3n, para liberarle. Esa es la sensaci\u00f3n que realmente tengo al hacer coaching.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando has adquirido experiencia, el estado coach est\u00e1 contigo no solo en la sesi\u00f3n, sino en tu d\u00eda a d\u00eda. Lo entrenas continuamente, porque adem\u00e1s \u00a1es muy pr\u00e1ctico!<\/p>\n<p>Esta es la raz\u00f3n por la que el coaching es algo m\u00e1s que una profesi\u00f3n. This was much cooler than decorating the tables or learning about things that had happened and stopped happening hundreds of years before I even existed!<\/p><p><strong>The other day, driving back to my house here in London, I watched people cross the street in front of me, and thought\u2026 how do the moral values of a culture or region directly reflect the everyday reality of an entire nation?<\/strong><\/p><p>And I\u2019ve thought of all the countries I\u2019ve been to, which are dozens of them, and cultures in general, and how clear it is to understand which are those values established strongly from the cradle, in that culture of which that person did and of which he is a part.<\/p><p>An IVH (Human Value Index) survey conducted by the UN (The United Nations) showed that in the opinion of Brazilians, in general, what it is necessary to change in Brazil for quality of life to improve is, first, education, followed by public policy, violence, moral values \u200b\u200band employment. In the State of S\u00e3o Paulo there was a variation in relation to the national opinion, with moral values \u200b\u200bfirst.<\/p><p><strong>Most likely, if the same survey were done in England or in any other country, the result would be another.<\/strong><\/p><p>And it occurred to me: This applies not only to countries, but also to each of the families and the citizens.<\/p><p>If we stop to think, we will see clearly how the values we experience (or not) in our home, influences our life in general.<\/p><p>I particularly have two very strong and unshakable values, one is respect, and the other is honesty.<\/p><p>I cannot imagine a satisfactorily happy life without the presence of one of these two values.<\/p><p>And analyzing my reality, I see how everyone in my house also adopted the same guiding values, just as I adopted the values of the other members of my family.<\/p><p><strong>And in that I thought as I watched people cross the street\u2026 in the tranquility I was feeling, standing at the traffic light, with the glass open, and not even thinking about checking the mirror to make sure no one was approaching to rob me. And everyone around them was acting the same way.<\/strong><\/p><p>The boy who appeared to be about 10 years of age crossing the street alone, with his school bag, talking on his iPhone, the executive with his backpack, who did not try to disguise the presence of a laptop, and the old man, who walked calmly on the street with his walking stick, not being hit by the other pedestrians, and not bothering to finish crossing quickly, just in case the green light turned red for him.<\/p><p>And I realized the main reason for me to love London, is because people and their values, build a nation and (regardless of the weather), build the quality of life they have. (I\u2019m not just referring to London, but mentioning what I observed while thinking about it.
